After a couple of years trying out different things, I came across Ruby on Rails back in 2006. I was immediately sold, built some private sites and attended the RailsRumble 2007. As it was just a hobby for me, it took another two years before I applied for my first professional Rails-Job in the mid of 2009. So, that were my early days. My first employer in Hamburg and one of the best companies in europe when it comes to geo-projects. Had a great time and learned so much while working with them.
A small company from Hamburg, specialized in building sophisticated web projects. They strongly believe in extreme-programming, therefore we've done pair-programming most of the time. I really enjoyed my time there.
My first real freelance gig and as far as i know, the first german competitor to airbnb. I worked in a large, distributed team and was especially hired for a geo-data project.
Another interesting freelance project. We've built a traffic information system for ports, by combining several data sources to get the overall picture of whats happening in a specific port.
